The melamine finish is a low pressure laminated process, much different than Formica type high pressure laminate. The big box stores used to carry it in 5/8" and 3/4". I don't know what they carry now.

WEBNov 20, 2013 · Melamine is a chemically applied low pressure coating. It feels like HPL (high pressure laminate), like a Formica type sheet, but is very thin. It cannot be taken off intact. It is commonly applied to an industrial particle board, but can be available in other substrates. Cabinet liner is an HPL usually in 1/40" thick sheet.

I want it covered with plastic laminate like Formica. If Im buy a sheet of Formica for $70, a sheet of MDf for $50 and a gal of Contact Cement also around $50, that comes to around $200 with tax and all.

WEBAug 4, 2008 · Just a note about melamine. Usually the sheets are between 1/128" and 1/64" over the nominal. Make your dados about 1/64" over and use a 120 grit sanding block to bevel the edges of the melamine sheet. The beveled edge will slide nicely into the dado. I almost always cut the dados on my table saw using a stacked dado.

WEBNov 21, 2011 · One stretcher flush with the front edge of the cabinet and the other flush with the back edge of the cabinet. The ends of the stretchers will sit in a rabbet at the top edge of both end panels and will be glued and fastened. My plan is to screw up through the stretchers and into the table top (3/4 melamine) to fasten it in place.

I’ve decided to build a 3x6 table made from 2x4 studs as the frame with sheeting for the top and a shelf below. I got part of the idea from Bear Mountain on YouTube. I will put leveling feet and flip down casters.

We used to use melamine for catch tables and jigs and stopped because after a while the melamine wore through showing the particleboard core.

WEBSep 16, 2012 · I would use the Melamine for the top, and the plywood for the bottom. The Melamine has a slicker surface. If you decide to glue and screw two sheets of any substrates together, I suggest this tip. Lay the eventual top sheet face down and place the bottom sheet on top of it. Line them up, and mark the edges as to which sheet is which.
