Well definitely not the tour we had expected. For the fishing capital of the world, our expectations were high but not unachievable. The fishing was bad. The communication between us and Knudson… Full review by John T

Cruising in to Ketchikan on Coral Princess on July 24, party of 2. Several reviews mention the great captains they had, seems to make or break the experience. Can you request? Also ratio of poles to person, 1 to 1? Is there port pickup and return time guarantee? Thank you

We hope that you have a wonderful trip. We always recommend going with a local company and captain who know fishing in Ketchikan the best. When it comes to how the poles are organized this can change on the group and boat. Some boats fish 1 to 1, while others rotate the catching of fish. Just let you captain know ahead of time your preferences, or if you have any questions. Our recommendation for a fishing charter is Worman Sportfishing.

Great question. You always have the option of catch and release. However, if you wish to take fish home charter guests have a few options: Custom Fish Processing: At the end of the trip when we arrive at the dock a Cedars Lodge Custom Fish Processing representative will greet us. They will take your fish -- fillet, clean, vacuum seal and flash freeze your catch. There is also the option of having your catch smoked and sent home to you. You select the shipping date. There is a minimum order of 15 pounds so that a minimum fish box will come to approximately $95. You will receive you own fish! Note: Cruise ship passengers are not allowed to bring their catch back on board. _____ Guest who fly into Ketchikan and fish with Worman Sportfishing: For Worman Sportfishing all day guest, fly in guests, and local visitors we can process your fish at the marina and vacuum-pack your catch on site for no additional cost. Knudson Cove Marina has the following available to our guest: Fish Boxes 50 lbs fish box - $11 25 lbs fish box - $8.25 Freezer Space: $5 a night to store your fish till you are ready to go home. Note: There is also a scale available to weigh your fish boxes. If you are traveling on Alaska Airlines fish boxes must be under $50.
hi, I am about to book the Salmon Sportsfishing Expedition thru princess Cruises in Ketchikan and yes, I am wanting to spend the entire time with a rod of my own, not a 'take turn' event. do you know if your tour was the KTN-550 . it says 4 - 6 people but doesn't say how many rods. just says.....trolling with downriggers is the method of fishing used on this excursion. Generally, the fishing rods are placed in holders and lines are lowered to specific depths. Participants do not hold the rods until fish are hooked. When a salmon strikes the fisherman then removes the rod from the holder, sets the hook with a slight jerk and plays the fish. Usually, five to six fishermen are assigned per boat. thanks for your advise.

Great question. Depending on your captain and boat it will determine how fishing rods are distributed. Often only 4 rods are fished, as with the layout of downriggers 4 rods fish better than 6. If you are adamant that you would like your own rod, I would let your boat captain know of your request before you start fishing.
