We were here this afternoon and were pretty disappointed. Not sure what we anticipated but it was a low-end commercial area with a number of schlock shops. There were a couple of reasonably niceā¦Full review by phill233

Typical tourist location. Reminds me of Pier 39 in San Francisco. Has standard food and merchandise locations ... aka tourist traps. Will skip next time in Monterey and go straight to the Aquarium.Full review by Travel75_12

Cannery Row is a beautiful location with lots of restaurants and shops. We went in the evening, and I think it was even more beautiful lit up after dark.Full review by jv66210
I was down at Fishermans Wharf and there are alot of pigeons everywhere and I don't like them. I was wondering if Cannery Row is the same atmosphere or what? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

No where near the same amount. Fishermans wharf is full of outside restaurants attracting the birds. No where near the same problem you should be fine.
What's the parking situation? Should we take public transportation from our hotel?

There is a parking structure that fills up by midday but if you get there when he acquiring open's or before noon you should be able to find a spot. Can't remember how much it costs but it's about a quarter mile walk from the parking structure to the aquarium and that takes you through part of cannery row. Otherwise street parking is hit or miss. Depending on what hotel you stay at there are plenty of great walking trails if you don't mind getting lots of steps in!
When do things start shutting down? We are hoping to visit here late afternoon/evening (4pm, have dinner, etc.) but we don't want to miss out.

Hi. It varies. Some places close at 6:00 pm and some at 8:00 pm. It's sort of a shame to come to Cannery Row and miss the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There isn't much of a sense of history at the Cannery anymore. It is mostly restaurants, gift shops, and a hotel. As a person who grew up in the area, I used to go to the Pacific Grove ocean walkway around 4:00 pm which is feeding time for the sea otters. There used to be hundreds of them floating on their backs, banging sea shells on a rock on their tummies to open them, but the last time I did that (2016) there were only about five otters. Kellie
