At least 9 million people in the nation's upper Midwest region are under red flag warnings on Monday, including residents of Minnesota, where a wildfire was already burning out of control in the largest national forest east of the Mississippi River.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning at 9:23 a.m. EDT on Monday valid between 10 a.m. EDT and 10 p.m. EDT for Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Gogebic, Iron and Dickinson counties.

Over the weekend, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) upgraded the fire danger risk for numerous counties across the state, including placing Langlade and northern Marinette counties under an “extreme” fire danger classification.
