Hamas officials accused Israel on Wednesday of delaying aid deliveries to Gaza and jeopardising a truce and hostage release deal, an allegation Israel dismissed as "fake news."

Thousands of Palestinians are returning to northern Gaza after Israel and Hamas reached a deal to release six hostages. Over 200,000 people crossed on foot as checkpoints reopened, with Gaza authorities deploying workers to assist returns.

Gaza's Hamas authorities said more than 300,000 people, or almost half of those displaced from the north during the war, had crossed into Gaza City and the north edge of the enclave.
