Millions in Spain and across the world have watched with heartache the images of Valencians coping with the ravages of the worst flash flood in Spaniards’ living memory.

The royals, accompanied by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, visited Paiporta -- one of the worst affected towns -- and are due to move on to Chiva, another battered town close to Valencia, Spain's meteorological agency has issued a warning for heavy rain in the Valencia region,

Spanish King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are to visit the disaster region around Valencia on Sunday as the death toll from the severe flooding reached 214 and dozens of people remain missing. The regional government said the death toll had risen to 214 according to Europapress.

The storm, which began dumping historic amounts of rain on Monday night, caused devastating floods that have killed more than 210 people. At least 62 people died in Paiporta, a suburb of the city of Valencia.

The Spanish royals and their entourage which included Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez were reportedly met with hostility and pelted with mud on Sunday during a visit to the flood-ravaged Valencia region.
