Obesity has been declared a disease by WHO. It is associated not only with heart disease, diabetes, stroke, gallstones, osteoarthritis knees but also has mental ramifications.

The death of a nurse from North Lanarkshire has been linked to the use of a weight-loss drug recently approved for use on the NHS. Susan McGowan, 58, took two low-dose injections of tirzepatide, known under the brand name Mounjaro, over the course of about two weeks before her death on 4 September.

Leigh-Anne Lagden was given a free weight loss injection in exchange for social media promotion but claims they told her to take five times as much as she should have and she ended up hospitalized.

The use of weight loss drugs without doctor's supervision is not advisable and can lead to serious side effects and complications.

Amgen said on Wednesday there was no link between its experimental weight-loss drug and changes in bone density, a day after those concerns wiped off more than $12 billion from the company's market value.

Analysts cited data from a phase one study showing the highest dose of Amgen's MariTide was linked to roughly 4% loss of bone mineral density over 12 weeks.
