When the Detroit Tigers signed Gleyber Torres on a one-year deal to be their second baseman, they knew he’d be a starting All-Star, right?

Detroit Tigers stars Riley Greene, Javier Báez and Gleyber Torres were named to the American League All-Star team after fan voting on Wednesday. It is the first time since 2007 that the Tigers have had three players elected to start.

Gleyber Torres, Javier Baez and Riley Greene were all announced as starters on Wednesday for MLB’s 2025 All-Star Game. Detroit and the Los Angeles Dodgers hold the most starters in the upcoming game with three apiece.

Those comments, unsurprisingly, got picked apart, with the cities of Cleveland and Detroit responding, WNBA fans quickly reminding Cunningham of the history of the WNBA in those cities, and many pointing out the hypocrisy of complaints about Detroit and Cleveland from a player in Indianapolis.

The social media accounts for each city posted responses to Cunningham, who said Tuesday she wasn’t sure “how excited people are to be going to Detroit or (Cleveland).”

The cities of Cleveland and Detroit have pushed back at Sophie Cunningham after the Fever guard questioned the WNBA's plan to expand into those cities.
