Much to the joy of some and displeasure of others, the snow is falling across Nashville and Middle Tennessee Friday, with many residents likely to get slammed with several inches of the white stuff.

A winter storm warning has been issued for all of Middle Tennessee. While most areas could receive between three to six inches of snow on Friday, some areas could see as much as seven inches.

The Winter Storm Warning is in effect now across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. It started at midnight Friday and will last until 6 a.m. Saturday for Lincoln, Moore and Franklin Counties. The rest of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky are under the warning that started at 3 a.

A winter storm is expected to bring up to eight inches of snow to Middle Tennessee along with ice and hazardous road conditions.

FOX 17 News meteorologists say 5 to 7” is possible for Nashville's Metro area and our southern counties, with a pocket of 8". It’s possible a winter mix could develop in our southern counties. If that occurs, snow totals could be slightly less.

At least 46 million people were under a winter storm warning as of Thursday as the storm spreads along the Gulf Coast Friday, according to the weather service. The storm should weaken by Saturday, bringing lighter snow between 1 and 3 inches to parts of the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic and the Ohio Valley before exiting off the Carolinas.
