As the Red Wings reach the midway point, let's assess each player based on performance and expectations heading into this season.
The Detroit Red Wings are pleased with the energy rookie Marco Kasper brings with his staking, forechecking and defensive play. It hasn’t translated to offense, but an opportunity on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond might help the team’s top pick from 2022 boost his production a little.

DETROIT – Looks like the NHL schedule-maker played a trick on the Detroit Red Wings and sent them on a midseason trip to the four places where they’ve struggled the most in recent years. The Red Wings, following a seven-game winning streak under new coach Todd McLellan, hit a bump in the road Tuesday with a 6-3 loss to San Jose.
When the Detroit Red Wings board the team plane for Florida today, injured defenseman Jeff Petry will presumably not be with them. “I would say ‘no’ right now,” Detroit coach Todd McLellan said Tuesday.
Now getting to see Raymond through eight games and daily practices, McLellan is understanding how good a player Raymond is, and can be in the future.
Defensemen on every pairing are helping chip in offensively for the Red Wings. It's a huge part of their resurgence.
The 6-2 win over Seattle was the Red Wings’ seventh straight, which is their longest win streak since January 2012. Vibes are high in Detroit. And with a game against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, that streak has a serious chance to continue.
