BOSTON — Charlie Coyle scored a pair of third-period goals, stealing the spotlight from fellow Boston University product Macklin Celebrini in his first game at the TD Garden as an NHL player and leading the Bruins to a 6-3 victory over San Jose on Monday. It was Boston’s 14th straight victory over the Sharks.

After losing in crushing defeat to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon, the Boston Bruins returned home to TD Garden to host the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

Coyle will start the game on the third line on the wing with Matt Poitras, who returns at center and Trent Frederic. Vinni Lettieri will play his first game in Boston this season in Coyle’s regular spot with Elias Lindholm and Brad Marchand. Oliver Wahlstrom will sit out with Coyle available.

Will Smith had a goal and an assist in his New England homecoming, and goalie Yaroslav Askarov, still recovering from the flu and playing at less than 100% health, made 27 saves. But the Sharks have now lost 14 straight games to the Bruins dating back to the 2015-16 season.

In a season already full of frustrating-beyond-belief losses, the first 40 minutes of Monday’s head-to-head with the Sharks had the Bruins lined up for what would’ve been the worst one yet. Knotted up at 2-2,

Connor Ingram made 23 saves and Olli Maatta scored his first goal for the Utah Hockey Club in a 5-2 victory over Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. Logan Cooley, Barrett Hayton, Matias Maccelli and Clayton Keller also scored to help Utah win its second consecutive home game.

NHL: San Jose Sharks have won just 13 of 26 games in which they’ve led or been tied going into the third period
