Three Statesman reporters conducted background checks on 68 candidates vying for elected positions in the six cities and three school districts in Ada County, as well as Nampa and Caldwell, in October. From court and other public records, the checks turned up incidents that voters may want to know about.

Ahead of local elections on November 4th, Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane is encouraging all Idaho residents to finalize their plans to vote. With important deadlines fast approaching, he's reminding residents they have until 5 PM tomorrow to pre-register to vote and request an absentee ballot.

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to decide on a number of local mayoral, city council races, levies and bonds across Idaho.

Idahoans may visit voteidaho.gov until 5 p.m. local time Friday to request an absentee ballot for free or preregister to vote for the Nov. 4 election, the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office said in a news release issued Thursday.

Challenging Hogaboam are Eric Myricks, an entrepreneur and performing artist who goes by the stage name Elijah Rock; Melissa Sue “Suzi” Robinson, a transgender woman who ran for mayor in 2009, 2013 and 2017; and Justin Buchholz, a truck driver and self-proclaimed “regular guy” who donated to Ammon Bundy’s bid for governor in 2022.

Absentee voting is underway in Idaho for the Nov. 4 local elections, and early in-person voting has started in some counties and expands to Ada, Bonneville and Kootenai counties on Monday, elections officials said.
