ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan football appeared to be going backwards and USC was still reveling in its Week 1 win over a potentially overhyped LSU team. Still, the Wolverines had lost to Texas in Week 2 and the Trojans were flying high coming into Ann Arbor for their first-ever Big Ten game.

Michigan got on the board first in Saturday's showdown between the 18th-ranked Wolverines and 11th-ranked Trojans as running back Khalil Mullings sprinted 53 yards for a touchdown to give Coach Sherrone Moore's team a 7-0 lead.
