Some thought the firing of Mike Brown may have helped Fox's chances of staying with the Kings, but it may be the other way around.

The Sacramento Kings sent shockwaves throughout the NBA when they fired head coach Mike Brown on Friday after less than three seasons with the team. The firing came shortly after Brown held a practice with the Kings and spoke to the media, but right before their flight to Los Angeles to face the Lakers on Saturday.

The shockwaves of Brown’s firing reverberated through the NBA. Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle, a respected veteran of the league, was equally stunned by the move. “Mike Brown is one of the standard-bearers for integrity in our profession,” Carlisle said. “And I’m just absolutely shocked.” Like, no coach is safe.

With the public and media both questioning the decision, those in charge of making it within the Kings' front office have gone conspicuously quiet. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Kings' top brass has flat-out refused to face local media, who have understandably been seeking clarity since last Friday's firing.

Brown, a member of the Warriors’ coaching staff from 2016-22, was fired Dec. 27 midway through his third season with the Kings.

The Golden State Warriors have been very inconsistent ever since their stellar start to the 2024-25 season. They are in the middle of a topsy-turvy patch, unable to string together a consistent run of excellence.
