The Washington State Cougars improved to 4–0 Friday night with a drama-filled 54–52 win over San Jose State in double overtime at Gesa Field—and did so despite a few critical miscues from coach Jake Dickert.

The Cougars are 3-0 and have scored 131 points in those wins, that include a 24-19 win over Washington in the Apple Cup last week.

Matchup to watch: Washington State’s quarterback John Mateer vs. SJSU’s defense. Mateer is a true dual-threat quarterback and leads the Cougars in rushing through three weeks with 314. SJSU’s defense is ranked no. 21 in the FBS for total defense.
