The Brutalist director Brady Corbet clarified how AI tools were used on the film during postproduction after social media outrage about the practice spread widely over the weekend. In a statement provided to Gold Derby,

Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones’s Hungarian dialogue in The Brutalist was enhanced using AI tools, according to the film’s editor Dávid Jancsó.

Days before the Oscar race officially kicks off, one of the expected frontrunners sparked controversy when the film's editor admitted using AI to enhance Hungarian accents in "The Brutalist."

It has been confirmed by The Brutalist’s editor Dávid Jancsó that AI was used in the film to enhance the Hungarian language performed by stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, and to create drawings and buildings seen in the Venice Biennale sequence.

Brady Corbet's critically claimed film elicited backlash after the editor said that artificial intelligence had been used.

"Adrien and Felicity’s performances are completely their own," says Corbet, after details emerged on how AI technology was used in the editing of the actors' scenes spoken in Hungarian.

An editor on the film, which stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, confirmed AI had been used to make the actors' Hungarian dialogue sound more authentic.

As reported by The Guardian, the film’s re-recording mixer Cyril Holtz told interviewers at the Cannes Film Festival that AI cloning was used to enhance the singing voice of lead actor Karla Sofía Gascón. He said the production utilised Respeecher to blend their singing with that of Camille, the French pop star who co-wrote the film’s score.
