The Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) recently named Henri W. Crockett as its 87th president and chair, marking a historic milestone as the first Orange Bowl alumnus to hold the position.

On January 1, 1986, the Barry Switzer Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions 25-10 in the Orange Bowl. The victory allowed OU to avenge a loss from the previous year to Washington in the same bowl game. The Sooners were voted the unanimous National Champions, and quarterback Sonny Brown was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

It was a good season for the Florida Gators and head coach Billy Napier. They went 8-5 overall, 4-4 in SEC games, and defeated the Tulane Green Wave 33-8. That marked their first winning season under Napier since he took over for Dan Mullen in 2022 and their first bowl win since the Orange Bowl in 2019.
