The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise—especially in the wake of CES 2025, where several peripheral makers were bold enough to display replicas of the unrevealed hardware to showcase their Switch 2 accessories—but you might be shocked at just how closely the upcoming Switch 2 sticks to the form and function of its predecessor.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially announced and perhaps the biggest surprise, is that it isn't very surprising at all. From the form to function, this is very much a bigger, more powerful Switch and that's a good thing.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally official, and it's already boasting one of my favourite features I want to see in next-gen consoles: backwards compatability.
