Driving history has become a focus of the city of Delray Beach's investigation into a crash between a city-owned fire truck and a Brightline train, according to records WPTV received.

Brightline is responding after 15 people were injured when one of its trains crashed into a fire engine in Delray Beach on Saturday morning.

Fifteen people were injured when a Brightline train hit a fire truck in downtown Delray Beach today (Dec. 28, 2024), splitting the ladder truck into two parts. The collision occurred about 10:45 a.m.

A Brightline train was stopped on the tracks, its front completely destroyed about a block away from a twisted fire truck that lay on its side.

The high-speed rail operator posted a video on social media showing the moments leading up to the direct-impact crash.

They are on leave “pending the results of an internal administrative investigation to determine if City and Fire Rescue policies and procedures were followed,” the fire chief said.

WPTV is digging deeper for answers weeks after a crash involving a fire truck and a Brightline train in late December. That crash left 15 people hurt including three firefighters. WPTV reporter Ethan Stein found the city’s investigation is going beyond that incident.
