Former priest Neil Kalina is resentenced to 7-15 years for sexual assault after a court found a sentencing error.

A former Shelby Township priest was resentenced for second-degree sexual conduct after his conviction for assaulting a 14-year-old boy in 1984.

Neil Kalina was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2022 and was sentenced to 7-15 years behind bars. The Court of Appeals ordered a resentencing in 2024 due to a technical error, claiming the consideration of acquitted conduct had impacted the calculation of his sentencing.

Kalina was one of 11 clergymen charged by the Michigan Department of Attorney General’s clergy abuse investigation team.
