Recommendation? Which 2" x 72" belts for knife making?
Aug 8, 2020 · Trying to run a 400 or 600 grit belt at full speed is asking for issues. You slow them down, and they cut better. Another thing to try is a soft platen, like leather or rock hard felt attached to a metal platen. That smooths out the belt splice/bump, but need to be replaced fairly frequently as they wear and not remain flat as long.

Recently, a talented CAD user (who was building a grinder off my plans) was courteous enough to model the grinder and each part within a CAD platform and print the plans to PDF.

Jun 23, 2015 · This prototype is made to fit the standard small wheels that use 7/8 OD bearings with an overall length of about 3 1/8 inches. A lot of knife makers already have these wheels to use with there 2x72 so making the attachment use these wheels was the most practical. It accepts up to 2 wheels so that one acts to flatten the belt out.

Jan 24, 2012 · I start with a 36 grit then go to a NEW 120 grit belt . Ill hand sand sometimes at 120 and ht. Afterward depending on the mood and look of the knife Ill either go with belts at 220 and 400 then a scotchbrite or just hand sand after heat treat from 120 up. 120 is a little bit of a pain but if you get a real good first sand with the 120 the other steps go real fast and smooth.
